“If I can’t audit the code, I won’t trust it.”
Role: Engineer automating multisig workflows and auditing code for self-hosted deployments.
Sparrow user, really technical (confident with bitcoin Tech and able to set a custom 3-5 multisig for themselves)
Demographics:
- Age: 32yo | OS: Linux (headless) | Tools: Docker, Sparrow Desktop, Sparrow.
- Setup: 1 PC + 3 hardware wallets (tests on TestNet first). Test BS on TestNet4 before switching to MainNet.
Problem: Closed-source tools restrict customization and trust.
Pains:
- Poor documentation for self-hosting and contributing.
- Lack of reproducible builds for security audits.
Goals:
- Automate key rotation; deploy air-gapped instances.
Key Features Used:
- Open-Source Codebase: Self-hostable via Docker; customize policies via GitHub contributions.
- Coldcard Integration: Air-gapped PSBT signing via microSD exports.
- CLI Tools: Scriptable workflows for bulk transaction signing.
Benefits:
- Full control over multisig policies; community-driven improvements.
Trigger: Need for programmable, auditable multisig infrastructure.
Barriers: Integrating hardware wallets into bespoke setups.
Scenarios:
Submitting patches for BitBox02 support.
Writing scripts for 90-day key rotation on Tails OS.
